Please tell your friends about this great radio station and if you can please also make a donation.

Although many changes have been already implememted, a lot of work is currently being done behind the scenes.

OldSchoolFM! Let’s Make It Personal!

To name a few things that are in progress at the moment:

  • audio stream testing

Some tests are done live on a test stream. Others are done just in the studio.
Next week new hardware will arrive that will simplify the streaming process.

The coming year will be used for testing several things.

More details will follow as they become clear, so  Stay Tuned!

OldSchoolFM Testing with Streaming!

Posted on 02. Aug, 2009 by Jan Polet in OldSchoolFM

OldSchoolFMOldSchoolFM update!
Over the last couple of days I’ve been testing some things to do with OldSchoolFM.
I wanted to experiment with software and hosts in terms of playing music amd streaming it to the Internet.
So far I’ve been testing with a Ustream account. Although the audio is mono, ’cause Ustram is intende for video streaming, it sounds really good. After I figured out how to set up three PC’s, one to play all audio and use Skype, one to actually stream the audio and one to select and play music ‘off air’ I had a lot of fun playing around.
A lot still has to be figured out. For one, Ustream doesn’t let me select the right audio output, which causes me to have to use another PC to stream and that makes it more complicated than I’d like it to be. There are also some issues with the latest version of the software I use to play the audio and I’m working with the guy behind it to resolve them. Then there’s Skype for Mac. Skype is making chat sounds that are being played through the main audio output, whilst all other sounds are being played by the output selected in the Skype preferences. Very annoying. Don’t know what to do about that at the moment.

I’d like to test with a real Shoutcast stream as well. Beacause that’s a totally different way of streaming, it’ll probably create a lot of other/extra questions. I’m waiting to hear back from someone at a shoutcast hosting provider about that.
The licensing is also something that’s becoming more clear.
The next thing I’d like to test is radio software and Shoutcast streaming.
When I’ll be testing again, I’ll tweet about it on Twitter.

Hope to be talking to you soon, ‘on air’. :)

By the way, ideas, feedback or suggestions about anything to do with Internet radio is still more than welcome.
If you like to help testing of when the station is up and running, please let me know.

UPDATE!!

Bij connecting the audio interface another way, I was able to stream with the Mac.

By using Adobe Flash Media Live Encoder I was able to create a STEREO stream on Ustream. Unfortunately the app is not available for Mac, so I’m back to using 3 computers again.
