Colored Lenses!

Posted on 28. Jan, 2006 by Jan Polet in News/Info

Today I got a letter from my medical insurance company, stating that they’re gonna see to it that I’ll get the colored contact lenses I wrote about earlier. That’s gonna make such a big difference! It means not as many instances that I have to turn away form windows because the daylight really hurts my eyes, causing many headaches and hopefully less pain when that’s not possible. This really made my day! :) More info about my vision can be found here.

Several Things!

Posted on 18. Jan, 2006 by Jan Polet in News/Info

Many things happened in the last few days. Some good and some bad. The latest bad thing is that my iPaq crashed. :( The battery didn’t die, so I don’t know what’s wrong. The restore program isn’t working either. Now I have to reinstall everything.

Earlier today I bought new near-field monitors. Very small, great sounding (and great looking) speakers, for creating and mixing the productions we’re working on for Hit Test Productions.

The transfer of the apartment is moved back in time, to around February 20th. Hopefully it won’t conflict with my teaching work for the Veronica Radioschool.

Unfortunately I wasn’t able to get as much rest as I was hoping for, but the week isn’t over yet, so I’ll keep trying.

Home Alone

Posted on 15. Jan, 2006 by Jan Polet in News/Info

The next ten days, I’ll be home alone. My ex-wife went on a trip and the kids are staying with their grandparents. While awaiting the appointment at the notary public’s officie, in February, to transfer the apartment I bought to me, I’m stying in the house of which half is still mine, until the earlier mentioned appointment. So this could be sort of a practice run for living alone.

Time To Live!

Posted on 14. Jan, 2006 by Jan Polet in News/Info

I really want and need things to quiet down a bit. 2005 has been pretty hectic. I’ve met a lot of new people and not all of them in person. The one person I’ve been in contact with the most, but in a indirect way mostly, is Adam Curry. Almost 10 months his Daily Source Code featured the Hit Test, which I loved creating and due to Adam’s way of interacting with it, became a hugh success. That success caused me to meet lots of people. Some of those became friends. During these 10 months, lots of things happened. I went through 4 months of rehab in Apeldoorn for my vision problem where I’ve also met a lot of people and learned quite a great deal, both about my handicap and myself. It’s changed my life. Then my divorce started and became final in the first week of this year. Next month I’ll be moving to an apartment in Rotterdam and start a whole new life once again, on my own. I was contacted by Veronica, a national broadcaster and worked on some great stuff. I started teaching a class at the Veronica Radioschool, which I’m enjoying very much. Much more actually than I’d anticipated. I’m working with audio again, instead of just computers all the time. I’ve become more creative in many ways. There’ve also been lots of other things. Things are happening still.

It’s been a busy, restless, overwhelming, emotional, stressfull, educational, confrontational, scary and eye opening time. Althoug it’s been hard, I wouldn’t wanna have missed it for the world. I know I wouldn’t have made it without the people I’ve met in Apeldoorn and people like Kevin, Brad and Jeroen, who’ve become friends. People to talk to, to laugh with, cry with, fight with, shout at, grow with and even drink with. They’ve all challenged me into becoming a better version of myself. I also know I absolutely wouldn’t have made it this far without the help of my parents. My mom and dad are really doing everything they can to be of assistence in any way they can, to help me through this and get my new life up and running. Thanks to all this help, I’m gonna make it. The saying: “What doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger!” really applies in this case. Now I only need some time to rest and get charged with all the energy I need to start live that life. I wanna thank all the people that have been there for me over the last couple of months and let them know that I love them for it.

A post like this one has been building up for a few weeks now, but until now I didn’t know how to write it down. When I started typing, I didn’t know where it was gonna lead. Lately I keep surprising myself. :) It feels good though. Maybe I should do a podcast about it too. Don’t know about that yet though.

Rest & Creativity

Posted on 14. Jan, 2006 by Jan Polet in News/Info

From Sunday on, I’ll be alone for more than a week. I’m planning on taking it easy and getting some rest, for a change. I’d like to listen to a lot of music and also to some podcasts. I’m certainly gonna try to create a Hit Test Podcast. I hope to be creating some music as well. To be creative, I need some rest first. Will it go as planned…….?

Change Of Policy!

Posted on 10. Jan, 2006 by Jan Polet in News/Info

I’m no longer gonna wait around for people. If people say they’re gonna deliver or do something for me, or get back to me on something, they’d better really do it. If something comes up, hey!, no problem, just as long as I’m told about it in time. Some things can’t be helped, so of course there’s always a second chance and maybe even a third, but if a pattern starts to form, I’m not gonna bother anymore. I only want to deal with people that are trustworthy. The same goes for people that are not returning mail or phone calls, or not initiating communication. It’s nice to get a reply, but if I only get a reply if I initiate the communication, forget it, I’m done. Harsh? Maybe, but I’ve been letting things slide with some people to long already, so it’s time for a change.

Music & InfrastruCture!

Posted on 09. Jan, 2006 by Jan Polet in News/Info

Been listening to some music and podcasts over the weekend. Haven’t had the time the do that lately. It inspired me to create some music myself. I already knew I loved music, audio and related stuff, but it’s always nice to see that confirmed.

I also tried to get info on moving my ISDN and ADSL lines to my soon te be new house. Unfortunately it involves large bureaucratic companies where every employee tells a different version of the truth.

By the way, I’ve created this post especially for Menno, who complained about the infrequent appearance of new posts. :)

Pretty Hectic! *UPDATE*

Posted on 06. Jan, 2006 by Jan Polet in News/Info

Again it is and has been pretty hectic.

I still have the flu. Had to fight a computer virus as well. My ISP filtered my DSL connection because of it. My server was sending enormous amounts of messages. None of my up-to-date scanners could find it. It was probably related to the Virus/SpyWare thing that happened just before new year.

The two days in Hilversum were great. It seems I love teaching. :) The Veronica Radio School really lets you experience cool stuff. We’ve been playing with a $13,000 OMNIA FM 6EX broadcast processor. Verry cool!

On Wednesday the final paperwork got taken care of at the lawyer’s office and the next day it got registered.

When I left to register the divorce and backed out of the parking space, I drove over something, which turned out to be the “exhaust system”. It just fell off the car! Cause it was still connected to the two-cylinder diesel engine, it had to be sawed off, to be able to drive to the shop. It’s probably gonna cost me, but it sounded great without a muffler! :) It even went a little bit faster.

Car

Car

As you can see, this isn’t a regular car. Because of my vision problem I can’t get my drivers license. The max allowed speed is 45Kph. Don’t know if there’s a US equivalent.

So, the new year started, that’s for sure! Fast and hectic, which explains the lack of time to create an HTP! Life got in the way.

Veronica Radio School!

Posted on 01. Jan, 2006 by Jan Polet in News/Info

On Monday and Tuesday I’ll be teaching a class at the Veronica Radio School in Hilversum. Not in a classroom, but in a radio studio instead, which makes it extra fun! :)
I leave around 6:45am. (Man, that’s early!)
Because it takes so long to travel from Puttershoek to Hilversum and back, I’ll be spending the night at Villa Trompenberg, a hotel I’ve stayed before. I’ll be back on Tuesday evening.

A New Year!

Posted on 01. Jan, 2006 by Jan Polet in News/Info

2006, for me, is gonna be a year with many new advantures and challenges.
I’m starting a new life. A new home in a different city. On my own, single again, after almost 15 years (of which I was married almost 11). That relationship officially ended a few days ago. It’ll never completely end, ’cause two beautiful kids came out of it. A girl, Sterre (4-) and a boy, Daan (1+). Because of my vision problem, they won’t be living with me. I’ll see them every other week. I’m so gonna miss al the “little things”. Little things do matter.
Right now I have to focus on managing on my own, which is part of the challenges I mentioned. Everything’s gonna be different.
Different doesn’t say anything about good or bad. Time will tell, I guess. I have to be patient. I have a good feeling about it. Don’t know why though. I do know that there’s a lot of “synchronicity” going on. Things happen for a reason.
Can’t help wondering where it’s all gonna go though and how it’s gonna be a year from now, at the turning of next year.
I have a feeling that this year is gonna be a very creative one in many ways and filled with lots of media stuff. Good stuff.
