Too Hot!

Posted on 19. Mar, 2006 by Jan Polet in News/Info

After several instances where my server just turned itself off, I finally found out why. It was running a “fever”. The CPU temp had climbed to about 94C/201F. I don’t know why, but I know that’s too hot! Opening the case and pointing a big fan at the inside of the server kept the CPU temp around 50C/122F.
When my good friend Richard came to have a look, he replaced the thermally conductive compound between the cooler and the CPU with “Arctic Silver 5” (Contains 99.9% pure silver!) and that did the trick. Now the CPU is running at a steady 35C/95F. That’s about half the normal operation temp. :)
Thanks again Ries!

Dust Alert!

Posted on 17. Mar, 2006 by Jan Polet in News/Info

Man there’s a lot of dust in the apartment at the moment. It’s caused by the work that has to be done to replace the window-frames. Right now the rough work for the final window-frame is being done. After that only the finishing touches remain. Hopefully the work will be finished today, so I can clean the whole apartment, again!, this weekend.

Work In Progress!

A lot of things are still going on in my new home. Today new equipment was placed in the bathroom. Tomorrow workers will start replacing the window-frames, which is gonna take about four days. So, the next week or so it’ll be quite messy. After that, hopefully the curtains will be ready and the projector and GrandMasterView screen will arrive, so I can finally get some work done, using these new visual aids.

Work & Replacements

My new home is looking better every day. I’m still moving stuff around to find the best place for everything though.
A new furnace (water and heating) has been installed replacing an old stove like heater. The work caused the apartment to be without heating for more than a day. Man, it was cold!
In a couple of days the window-frames will be replaced as well. That work will cover the apartment with a thick layer of dust (again!) and cause all sorts of other inconveniences. I’ll have to cover up everything. It could take several days before everything’s back to “normal”. Still don’t know what “normal” is though, since I’ve only been living here for about 10 days. :)
So, no podcast yet, but I’m working on it. Realy!

New Studio!

This is what the studio/office in my new home looks like. Not everything’s connected yet and things get moved around every day, but it’s getting there.Mew Studio

Back Online!

After unpacking about 80 boxes, the apartment really feels like home. A lot of work still has to be done though, but all the equipment is up and running, so you can expect a podcast soon. :)

First Post From Rotterdam!

Today I moved in to the apartment in Rotterdam, my new home from now on. Phone and ADSL are working. Only a notebook is connected at this time, so there’s still a lot of work to do. All the audio equipment has to be setup too, so no Hit Test any time soon, I’m afraid. To be continued…

Still Working Very Hard!

Posted on 01. Mar, 2006 by Jan Polet in News/Info

The apartment is looking better every day. I’m getting more tired every day though, from painting and stuff. The most important things have to be done before I move in on Friday. We’ll be working on all the remaining things in the coming weeks.
If everything goes as planned, tomorrow the ISDN phone line and ADSL will be connected in Rotterdam and disconnected in Puttershoek. We’ll be running around with a PBX and routers, trying to have it all up and running as soon as possible. I’ll probably not be online for a couple of days ’cause of IP and SMTP changes, but I’ll be back.
